Outstanding Individual Corporate Leadership

WINNER: David Fawcett (Amey plc)

PROJECT: Promoting Community Engagement in Hampshire

The Project…

David believes companies have a moral duty to dismantle barriers in the job market and use their influence to strengthen communities. His zeal and character have transformed Amey Hampshire’s social commitments; David believes that CSR must bolster people’s life chances, not be ‘window dressing’. Many Hampshire staff now view CSR as a core part of our work; in a 2015 survey, 97% said “Amey supports the communities in which it works” – the highest score in the UK for Amey.

Inspiring and exhorting others David‘s mission is to assist those who face the biggest social hurdles. He constantly promotes Amey’s Apprenticeship programme, targeting areas of high unemployment – organising placements for people with learning disabilities and ex-offenders.

He rates work with young people as particularly important and has continually provided vital support as a mentor and critical friend. As a STEM advocate, he has attended numerous careers/schools events. He provides workshops on draughting CVs, preparing for interviews and meeting customer needs.

David has created a culture where everyone helps make the Social Value Act a reality. Our 250 employees in Hampshire have supported 26 charities and social enterprises, through 400 volunteering days and varied fundraising events (including two bike rides, raising over £5,500 for Naomi House Children’s Hospice and Rainbow Centre; both were organised from scratch by David, who arranged all aspects).
